Game Theory

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Game theory is a branch of applied mathematics that is used in the social sciences (most notably economics), biology, political science, computer science, and philosophy. Game theory attempts to mathematically capture behavior in strategic situations, in which an individual’s success in making choices depends on the choices of others. While initially developed to analyze competitions in which one individual does better at another’s expense (zero sum games), it has been expanded to treat a wide class of interactions, which are classified according to several criteria.

Traditional applications of game theory attempt to find equilibria in these games—sets of strategies in which individuals are unlikely to change their behavior. Many equilibrium concepts have been developed (most famously the Nash equilibrium) in an attempt to capture this idea. These equilibrium concepts are motivated differently depending on the field of application, although they often overlap or coincide. This methodology is not without criticism, and debates continue over the appropriateness of particular equilibrium concepts, the appropriateness of equilibria altogether, and the usefulness of mathematical models more generally.

Although some developments occurred before it, the field of game theory came into being with the 1944 book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern. This theory was developed extensively in the 1950s by many scholars. Game theory was later explicitly applied to biology in the 1970s, although similar developments go back at least as far as the 1930s. Game theory has been widely recognized as an important tool in many fields. Eight game theorists have won Nobel prizes in economics, and John Maynard Smith was awarded the Crafoord Prize for his application of game theory to biology.

When Can I Purchase A Wii?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The Wii is one of the most popular most successful sought after electronic game systems ever built so much so that the most common concern about the famed game system was once, when can i purchase a Wii? The Wii game system, during the past Christmas holiday season got so scarce that no one anywhere could seem to get their hands on one anywhere!

The popular game console became a big hit almost instantly when it was first launched and then the motion controller added to the frenzie of the already most sought after video game console sensation. Nintendo has other great video, video game related, and audio products that prove to be the consumer products of choice also.

Nintendo, (the makers of the Wii) and a barrage of other quality electronic products were producing the game console, at one point in time at a rate of 1 million units per month, at which there was still no end in sight as to catching up with the demand for this amazing game console. Nintendo even increased it’s production rate to 1.5 million units for a while and even then the demand still could not be met for the game console. So the question, when can I purchase a Wii became even more doubtful for most consumers seeking the popular game console.

Gamers all over the world have help to made the video game industry a muti-billion dollar a year industry that continues to grow and with no end in sight. And its not just the gamers alone causing this explosion, technology has evolved in leaps, and bounds with quicker, more sophisticated, more life like game software programs adding to the video game frenzie everywhere.

Now that its well past the Christmas holiday season most stores are expected to have the game console in stock along with other affiliated Wii products as well, such as a large line of exclusive Wii games, accessories and other Wii paraphernalia.

So the now that the mad rush for acquiring the popular game console the Wii has somewhat subsided the question, when can I purchase a wii, isn’t as desperate a concern as it once was.

How To Downgrade PSP - Learn the Best Way To Downgrade Your PSP

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The PSP is a great handheld gaming machine capable of a lot more than just playing games but lets face it thats the reason you brought it to play games on. The graphics engine on the PSP is quite amazing playing games with almost the same quality and speed of its big brother the PS2. Its sleek to look at and feels great to hold and play. Can you tell I actually quite like the PSP.

Now how do you play games, well all officially licensed games come on a portable storage device known as the UMD (universal media disc) but it is possible to play games from the memory stick, games are downloaded on to a PC and then transferred to the memory stick via a card reader or the mini USB cable.

Well you might be thinking by now, great I’m of to download some games put them on my memory stick and play them on my PSP. Unfortunately its not quite as easy as that. With each and every firmware version Sony releases they update their security as well as add new features. What this means to you and me is that if you have an updated firmware version you will not be able to play downloaded games but fear not because it is possible to downgrade your PSP firmware version.

If you have a firmware version above 1.50 you will not be able to play downloaded games. so how do you know what firmware version you have, Easy.

Switch on your psp and find your way to the main menu, select settings then system settings and go to system information. That will then show you system software version, a series of numbers that could range from 1.0 up to 3.75. That is your firmware version.

Just a quick note, downgrading your PSP is perfectly legal, its your PSP after all you can do what you like with it. It doesn’t matter what firmware version you are using and you can always upgrade it again if you choose to.

The only way to downgrade is you use one of the available downgrading programs now these can be found around the internet. Just do a search on Google and you will find plenty of sites offering a downgrading service. Just make sure you trust the website as downloading a file or program from someone untrustworthy can end up very costly.

On my website I have review a few of these downgrading services and given an honest review of which I think is best. you can go along and have a read, see what you think.

Microsoft - Playstation 3’s New Best Friend?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Microsoft’s approval rating has spiked to a new high last February. That new high, was 42 (out of 100). Five days later, it fell back to 38.

Microsoft is synonymous with PC’s, but hardly beloved. Consumers view new products such as Office 2007 and the new operating system, Vista, as different but by no means better. Nearly everybody has experienced a computer crash with Microsoft’s software, and Microsoft often gets the blame, especially when consumers look into failure rates of alternative operating systems. Microsoft has also been clearly regarded as a cutthroat competitor that is frequently sued by small companies claiming monopolistic behavior.

With the release of Microsoft’s second generation console, the Xbox 360, they were (and still are) going directly against Sony’s “powerhouse”, the Playstation 3. While the Xbox 360 got an early start on the PS3, the PS3 has been able to outsell it consistently for every month in 2008 so far.

Why is this?

Microsoft had everything a console launch could want. A huge jump-start on the competition (a full year), a fully featured on-line gaming community, decent launch titles, and decent price tag.

Contrast this to Sony’s launch…

It was late to the market after suffering from several delays, it’s online community wasn’t as featured as Xbox LIVE, and with the exception of several games, the PS3’s launch titles were largely underwhelming. Last but not least, the $600 price tag did it’s part in deflating the console’s hype. (Note: this doesn’t define Sony’s current position)

With a brand name loved by all, there’s absolutely no reason the Xbox 360 should fall behind in sales figures. However, it’s important to note that the brand name here, is Microsoft, which is by no means loved by all.

For 62 out of 100 people struggling between the choice of the Ps3, or a Xbox 360, two consoles that are largely considered to be similar gaming systems (though this opinion is rapidly swaying in the Ps3’s favor) 62/100 of these people will have a much easier choice with this decision simply because of this simple fact; the Xbox 360 is made by Microsoft, and the Ps3, isn’t. The x box 360’s association with Microsoft is an automatic strike against the x box 360 for 62/100 consumers. This is a huge boost for the PS3.

Microsoft’s underwelming track record hasn’t stopped with their gaming consoles. In fact, Xbox 360 failure rates are reported to be as high as 33%. Contrast this to the PS3’s failure rate of less than 1%, and Microsoft doesn’t get placed in a good light.

Video Games

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

With so many video game consoles and video games out there, it can be hard to follow what you’re kids are playing these days. This article will inform you of the latest and greatest video game consoles so that you know will acquire a small idea of what the kids are up to these days.

First off, let’s talk Nintendo. In the 1980’s, 1985 to be exact Nintendo was established and released its first video game console and video game: Super Mario Brothers. Nintendo is a classic brand in the video game industry. Granted they were not the first in the business, they are trend setters in their niche, and a force to be reckoned with.

Nintendo’s latest console is called the Wii. The Nintendo Wii, or just plain Wii, is different from other game consoles in that the remote controller responds to physical movement and gestures made by the person using the controller. This is a great concept as many kids are not getting enough exercise due to wanting to sit in front of the television all day and play video games. With the Wii, at least they get some kind of physical exertion.

Now let’s talk Sony. Sony is the creator of the Playstation. The latest version of the Playstation out right now is the PS3. The PS3 is your conventional gaming console with high definition graphic capabilities, high storage capacities, and blu-ray, internet, and dvd options. All three gaming consoles that we’re mentioning in this article have high storage capacities and dvd capabilities.

Lastly, let’s have a look at the Xbox…yes, Mr. Bill Gates is dabbling into the video game console territory also. Anyway, the Xbox360 and the PS3 have been rivals for a while boasting much of the same capabilities and features. The newest addition to the competition is the Wii.

Well, that’s pretty much it and all the home gaming consoles that you must know about. There’s also the Wii, PS3, and XBOX 360 extra equipment and accessories, but we’ll save that for another article…

Nintendo Wii Increases in Popularity

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Nintendo Wii keeps on making news everyday and growing in popularity.

Recently, Nintendo’s Wii game is believed to sell more than Sony’s Playstation 3 which was far more than the expected mark. The delivered data estimates that the sale was nearly 4-to-1 in Japan in February as Wii software titles tried to conquer the undisputed leader in the bestseller list, as mentioned by the publisher of a game magazine.

In recent times, Nintendo sold 331,627 units of the Wii in the 4 weeks to February 24, in comparison with 89,131 units of the PS3, as mentioned by Enterbrain on Thursday. The Wii’s lead on the PS3 emerges to be widening: in January, Nintendo’s game is believed to sell more than Sony’s by more or less in the ratio of 3 to 1.

According to Enterbrain, in the recent months Nintendo’s own software called Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii became the best-selling software for the month in Japan, with remarkable 1.33 million units sold, the second place was pursued by the Wii Fit home fitness game, which sold 309,311 units in the four weeks.

Currently, the Wii has become a premier provider of the three-way game relieving a battle with the PS3 and Microsoft’s XBox 360. This is because of the reason that it has adopted the strategy of providing games, which are easy to handle as well as advance so that it can cover a wide range of game population to achieve heights. When it comes to Microsoft, its business of video game is currently struggling in Japan, home to both Sony and Nintendo, sold 14,079 XBox 360 units.

Learn How To Upgrade Your PSP From 1.5 To 3.02 For PS1 Games

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The potential of PSP is truly limitless; its gaming strength is not only powered by the great titles released for the console but it can also play games designed for other consoles like SEGA or GB by using emulators. Now, another gaming experience is added to the list. With a little reconfiguration, you can play PS1 games on your PSP. How to do it? Well, here’s a short guide to unleash your PSPs gaming power:

Requirements:

* Sony PSP with battery charged at least 75%.(Recommended: Full charge)

* Memory Stick Duo (Recommended: 1GB and above)

The first step to running your custom made Playstation games on your PSP involves getting the 3.02 OE-B (stands for Open Edition).

Starting with firmware 1.50

The first step is to have a PSP that is running on the 1.5 version of the PSP firmware. You can check for this by going into the System “System Settings” on your PSP, then System Information.

Important note: There is a version of the PSP’s motherboard known as TA-082, which, will not work under this situation. Do not attempt to continue with the installation if you have this motherboard. For more information, see The PSP-TA082 guide.

If you don’t have a 1.5 firmware, you can downgrade your PSP. If you don’t know how, just refer to the internet, there are many guides out there on how to downgrade any version.

Installing the 3.02 OE-A firmware:

1. First, download the official Sony PSP 1.50 Firmware and 3.02 Firmware, available here:

PSP 1.50 Firmware

PSP 3.02 Firmware .

2. Rename the 1.50 Firmware to 150.PBP, and the 3.02 firmware to 302.PBP.

3. Download the 3.02 Open Edition A from the here. Extract the files to the directory of your choice.

4. Copy the files 150.PBP and 302.PBP to the directory called oeupdmaker.

6. Go into your Game on your PSP menu, select Memory Card, and run 3.02 OE-A Update Maker. This will extract files from the 1.50 and 3.02 firmware to create the new custom firmware.

7. Reconnect your PSP to your computer. In the owupdmaker on your PSP is a new file titled DATA.DXAR. Copy this file to the 302oeflaster directory.

8. Run the program on your PSP called 3.02 OE-A Firmware Install. Do not turn off your PSP at this moment.

9. Wait - when it’s done, your PSP will reboot, and you’ll have your 3.02 OE-A firmware.

1. Download the 3.02 OE-B installer from here.

2. Extract the directory.

3. Make new folder in you PSP’s directory name it GAME150.

PSP Update - It Always Pays To Update Your PSP, Or Does It?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The PSP is an amazing piece of kit, you get great games you play on the move. but are you still carrying around your games on UMD disc’s.

Well there is an alternative way to play your games and that is to store them on your memory stick and what that allows you to do is download games to your computer and transfer them straight on to the memory stick.

Ok so where do you start, well first of you need a decent sized memory stick, I would always go for at leastĂ˝ 1GB but if your strapped for cash a 258MB will do.

Now the next thing you need to look at is the Firmware version of your PSP it needs to be 1.5 or less to play games this way. but there is no need to panic because you can always downgrade your PSP to this Firmware (and by the way it does no harm to your PSP, it just stops the money grabbing game makers from charging you a fortune for games).

So with your Firmware set and a memory card in your PSP all you need to do is download games to your computer (Mac or PC). plug in your PSP to your computer using the mini USB socket and drag and drop games across.

If you are worried about downgrading you PSP there are some helpful tutorials and even the software to download 1000’s of games. Just do a google search for ‘how to downgrade PSP’ and you will soon be able to download games, music, themes, backgrounds and even TV shows.

Right so step by step hers what to do.

Step 1

Copy your PSP game file to the correct path, if you don’t do this the games simply will not work. The correct path is PSP>GAME ( all folder names are in capitals)

Step 2

When the PSP games are transfered to your memory stick disconnect the PSP from your computer, then on the PSP in the main menu scroll to GAME and then select memory stick option. Press X and the list of games on the memory stick will be displayed. If you do have any errors I would recheck your Firmware (do not worry its easy to do).

More and more people are downloading games to there computer. For the price of 2 large pizza’s you can get access to every PSP game available, but not only that they have all the software you need to downgrade your PSP Firmware should you need to.
